AIRFLOW® Dental Cleaning in Katy, TX

AIRFLOW® ONE

Air, water and a fine powder instead of a metal scaler. No scraping, no vibration, and the coffee stains go with the plaque.

Is this you

Six signs to ask for this one.

The third is the reason most patients end up here: they have been putting off cleanings because the scaler hurts.

Persistent stains

Coffee, tea or tobacco leaving visible discolouration that brushing does not touch.

02

Tartar keeps coming back

Regular brushing is not preventing the buildup.

03

You dread the cleaning

Sensitive teeth or gums, and the scraping is the part you remember.

Caused by biofilm the brush has never disrupted.

The Treatment

What it is, and what it removes.

What is AIRFLOW® cleaning?

A controlled mist of air, water and a fine powder — usually erythritol or bicarbonate — sprayed at the tooth. It lifts biofilm, plaque and surface stain without a metal instrument ever touching the enamel.

In the practice’s words

AIRFLOW® teeth cleaning is a dental hygiene technique that uses a controlled mixture of air, water, and specially formulated powders to eliminate dental biofilm, plaque, and surface stains. Unlike traditional scaling, this method is gentle on teeth and gums, highly effective for stain and biofilm removal, and efficient for a deep, thorough cleaning.

Using the EMS AIRFLOW® system, patients at Mason Park Dental of Katy experience a comfortable cleaning without the discomfort often associated with traditional dental scalers.

Biofilm, and why it is the actual target

  • What it isA sticky, colourless layer of bacteria that forms on teeth and under the gums. You cannot see it, which is most of the problem.
  • Gum diseaseUntreated biofilm is where periodontal disease begins.
  • Tooth decayThe same bacteria producing the same acid, in a layer a brush skims over.
  • Bad breathHalitosis that survives brushing is usually biofilm.
  • Implant failureBiofilm around an implant is what loses it.

Why This One

What it does for you.

The practice’s own five advantages, and the fifth is the one it is careful to state as a side effect rather than the point.

It reaches what scaling misses

Superior plaque and biofilm removal, including in the hard-to-reach places.

Gentle on sensitive mouths

Minimal contact with the tooth surface, no scraping and no vibration.

Faster in the chair

Shorter treatment time than metal scaling, in the practice’s own comparison.

Stain comes off

Tea, coffee and tobacco. Exceptional stain removal, and a natural brightening with it.

A digital scan taken from the chair

Safe around appliances

Braces, aligner attachments, implants, crowns and veneers all tolerate it.

It supports gum therapy

Effective in treating and preventing gum disease, not only in polishing teeth.

Three things people get wrong about it
  • “It’s only cosmetic.” It does whiten teeth naturally by removing stains, but its primary goal is plaque and biofilm removal, which is a health treatment rather than a cosmetic one.
  • “It’s painful, like a normal cleaning.” It is designed to be pain-free, even for patients with highly sensitive teeth or gum disease.
  • “It can’t replace deep cleaning.” For many patients, especially those in maintenance therapy, it can reduce the need for invasive scaling or root planing. It does not replace a deep cleaning where the pockets call for one.

Why patients choose this practice for it: the latest EMS AIRFLOW® system, personalised attention, a focus on gentle and stress-free treatment, and a welcoming environment designed for comfort.

The Path

What happens, step by step.

01

Preparation

Your teeth and gums are assessed, and the cleaning is set up around what they need.

A digital impression on screen in the treatment room
02

Biofilm disclosing

A harmless dye stains the biofilm so it can be seen and targeted. You can see it too, which is oddly persuasive.

04

Polishing

The teeth are left smooth and bright, which is also what makes them slower to restain.

The Alternatives

How it compares.

AIRFLOW®, against traditional scaling.

This table is the practice’s own. It does not replace a deep cleaning where the pockets are already deep — that is a different treatment for a different problem.

Who it suits

  • Orthodontic appliancesBraces, retainers, aligners.
  • Implants, crowns, veneersCleaned without risk to the restoration.

  • AnyoneWho simply wants a gentler and more thorough clean.

The Cost

What it costs, before it starts.

This is how a cleaning is performed rather than an extra treatment on top of one. Ask at the front desk what it adds in your case.

Questions

Questions patients ask before they decide.

Is it good for sensitive teeth?

It is one of the main reasons the practice offers it. Unlike traditional tools that can irritate exposed dentine or gums, AIRFLOW® minimises contact with the tooth surface, avoids scraping and vibration, and uses a fine powder for a softer touch.

Is this just a cosmetic polish?

No. It does whiten teeth naturally by removing surface stains, but its primary purpose is plaque and biofilm removal, which is what prevents cavities, gum disease and infection.

Can it replace a deep cleaning?

For many patients, especially those in maintenance therapy, it can reduce the need for invasive scaling or root planing. Where pocket depths already indicate periodontal disease, a deep cleaning is still the right treatment.

Is it safe with braces or implants?

Yes, and it is better than the alternative for both. It is safe around braces, Invisalign attachments and implants, where traditional scaling is limited.

What is the powder?

A specially formulated cleaning powder, usually erythritol or bicarbonate based, delivered in a controlled mixture with air and water.

What is biofilm, exactly?

A sticky, colourless layer of bacteria that forms on teeth and under the gums. Left alone it causes gum disease, tooth decay, bad breath and implant failure. AIRFLOW® disrupts and removes it more effectively than traditional methods.
