Arrival

Teeth Whitening

Two ways: one visit in the chair, or custom trays at your own pace. Both lift years of stain from coffee, wine, smoking and age.

The Treatment

Two options, and they are not the same thing.

The practice offers both, and which suits you is mostly a question of how fast you want it and how sensitive your teeth are.

Professional, rather than off the shelf

Professional-grade agents, applied to teeth that have just been examined and cleaned. That combination is what a supermarket strip cannot do.

In the practice’s words

In-office whitening. Achieve noticeably whiter teeth in just one visit. Our in-office whitening treatment uses powerful, safe whitening agents that can lift years of deep stains from coffee, wine, smoking, and aging.

Take-home whitening kits. Prefer a more gradual approach? Our customized take-home trays allow you to brighten your smile conveniently and comfortably at your own pace, with professional-grade results.

Where whitening appears elsewhere at this practice

  • With Invisalign®A professional whitening gel (Kör) is included in every Invisalign treatment plan here.
  • With the laserThe dental laser is used to activate whitening agents, as one of its five uses.
  • With AIRFLOW®Not whitening as such — but removing surface stain brightens teeth naturally, and sometimes that is all that was needed.
  • Inside a smile makeoverWhere it is one of five treatments, and almost always the first one done.

The Alternatives

In-office, against take-home.

The two the practice offers.

In-officeTake-home
Noticeably whiter in a single visit.Gradual, over days at your own pace.
Powerful agents, applied here.Professional-grade results, applied by you.
One appointment to arrange.Customised trays, made to your teeth.
Good when there is a date in the diary.Good when sensitivity means going slowly.

Whichever you choose, it is the same category of stain being lifted: deep discolouration from coffee, wine, smoking and simply getting older.

Three things worth knowing first

Whitening is simple, and it has three limits that catch people out.

  • It only lightens enamelExisting fillings, crowns, bonding and veneers do not change colour. If you have work on the front teeth, whiten first and match the new shade afterwards.
  • Health comes firstDecay and gum disease are treated before cosmetic work. Whitening over an untreated cavity is uncomfortable and pointless.
  • Some stains will not liftDiscolouration that does not respond is covered rather than bleached — with bonding or veneers. Dr. Dave Cho will say which yours is.

The Cost

What it costs, before it starts.

Whitening is the least expensive cosmetic treatment the practice offers and the one most often bundled into something larger.

What Katy families say about being here.

Dr. Cho and his team are fantastic. They are thoughtful and kind. Always making sure you are okay. It’s easy to see how much they care about their patients. The attention to detail is impressive, whether it’s for invisalign or teeth whitening. Recently got dental veneers, and I’m loving the new smile. They really go above and beyond to make sure of your comfort.

Had a very good time at the dental office. The cleaning was thorough and Genevieve did an amazing job! The high tech tools made me feel at ease. It’s a calm atmosphere, which is just what anyone needs before a visit. Definitely a convenient place for dental care. Highly recommend it for anyone needing cleaning and exams.

Glenn Adrian De La Garza

Had my cleaning and exams today, and the staff was super friendly. They explained everything in detail and made me feel at ease. Not just a routine visit, more like a mini spa for my teeth. A great feeling knowing they really look after your health too. Highly suggest making this place your go to.

Questions

Questions patients ask before they decide.

In-office or take-home?

In-office gives noticeably whiter teeth in a single visit, using powerful agents applied here — good when there is a date in the diary. Take-home trays are customised to your teeth and let you brighten gradually at your own pace, which suits sensitive teeth better.

What kind of stains does it remove?

Years of deep stains from coffee, wine, smoking and aging. Surface stain can sometimes be removed by an AIRFLOW® cleaning alone, which brightens teeth naturally without bleaching.

Will my fillings and crowns whiten too?

No. Whitening lightens enamel, not restorations. Fillings, crowns, bonding and veneers keep the shade they were made in, which is why whitening is done before anything is colour-matched.

What if whitening does not work on my teeth?

Some discolouration does not respond to bleaching. In that case it is covered rather than lightened — with bonding for a single tooth, or porcelain veneers across several. Dr. Dave Cho will tell you which category yours is at the consultation.

Is it included with anything?

A professional whitening gel is included in every Invisalign® treatment plan at this practice.

Should I have a cleaning first?

Yes. Whitening works on clean enamel, and a cleaning and exam also confirms there is no decay or gum disease to treat first.

The Invitation

Ask about this one.

Easiest at your next cleaning: the teeth are already clean, and Dr. Dave Cho can tell you in a minute whether bleaching will work on your particular stain.
