Adults with unfilled molars
Intact back teeth with no history of decay in them can still be sealed, at any age.

Resin painted into the grooves of the back teeth, where a toothbrush has never reached. One visit, no drilling, and up to ten years of it.
Is this you
Sealants are often thought of as a children’s treatment. These are the adults who benefit.
Intact back teeth with no history of decay in them can still be sealed, at any age.

A history of decay, or a hygiene routine that is hard to keep up. An extra layer, honestly assessed.
The Treatment

An ultra-thin coating of plastic or resin painted onto the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. It fills in the deep grooves and pits so food and bacteria cannot sit in them.
Dental sealants are ultra-thin, protective coatings made of plastic or resin that are applied to the chewing surfaces of your back teeth — the molars and premolars. These areas are especially prone to cavities due to their deep grooves, pits, and uneven surfaces, which easily trap food particles and bacteria. Even with good brushing habits, these areas can be difficult to keep clean.
Sealants act like a shield, sealing off the grooves of your molars and blocking out harmful bacteria, plaque, and food debris. At Mason Park Dental of Katy, we use only high-quality, BPA-free sealant materials that are safe for children and adults alike. Sealants are colorless or slightly white in appearance and blend naturally with your teeth.
Six things the practice says a sealant does
Why This One
The argument for sealants is geometric rather than medical. A bristle is wider than the groove it is meant to clean.

The practice says so plainly: even with good habits, these surfaces are difficult to keep clean.
Nothing to trap food in, so brushing suddenly works on that tooth.
The only material used here, and the answer to the question parents actually came to ask.
Colourless or slightly white, blending with the tooth it is on.

No second appointment, no laboratory, and nothing to get used to afterwards.
A worn sealant is reapplied at a checkup. It is not a one-shot decision.

Your dentist
Dr. Dave Cho looks at your dental history, your habits and the actual shape of your molars before recommending it. Not every tooth needs one.

The Path

The molars and premolars are cleaned thoroughly and dried. A sealant will not bond over plaque.

A gentle solution roughens the enamel very slightly, so the resin has something to grip. Painless.

The sealant is painted onto the chewing surface and flows into the grooves.

A curing light hardens it into a strong bond, then it is checked for smoothness and fit. You can eat straight away.
Sealants take a few minutes per tooth and can be done at the same visit as a cleaning.

The Alternatives
A sealed tooth can still need a filling one day. An unsealed one is simply likelier to.

Sealants on their own are a good idea. Sealants with the rest of it are what actually keeps a mouth out of the restorative chair.
The Cost
Sealants are one of the best-covered treatments in dentistry, because insurers know exactly what they save.

The Proof
My son had his cleaning and X-rays this week. The staff was incredibly efficient and really detailed about the whole process. Even though my son had a huge fit since it was his first time getting X-rays, I feel like the staff genuinely cared about how he felt and tried their best to comfort him throughout the process.

Had my cleaning and exams today, and the staff was super friendly. They explained everything in detail and made me feel at ease. Not just a routine visit, more like a mini spa for my teeth. A great feeling knowing they really look after your health too. Highly suggest making this place your go to.
