Who To Know
Katy sits in three counties.
The city limits fall across Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties, which is the first thing that surprises people who move here: which county you are in changes who you deal with, and the answer can be different for your neighbour.
- CityMayor and City Council — a mayor, four ward councilmembers across Wards A and B, and one at large.
- CountyHarris County elected officials — the county judge and commissioners, if your address is on the Harris side.
- CourtKaty Municipal Court — traffic violations, Class C misdemeanors and city ordinance matters.

Police and emergencies.
The Katy Police Department has served the city since 1967 and runs its own 24-hour dispatch for police, fire, EMS and animal control.
